At a time when the global economic slowdown has made the future of many youngsters uncertain, there is a silver lining in the form of clinical. Clinical research is the most important part of the development process of a drug when it is tested on human beings to evaluate its safety and efficacy.
According to industry estimates, the demand for clinical research professional is expected to be over 50,000 in the Indian industry by 2010. The supply, however, is estimated at only a fraction of the total demand-20,000 qualified professionals with about 800 students graduating out of India’s clinical institutes per annum.
Thus, there is a huge gap between he demand and supply for clinical research professional in the growing pharmaceutical, healthcare and biomedical industries.
Clinical trials outsourcing to India relies heavily upon the cost-savings, available patients and IT strengths (important in data management), there is also increased awareness and requirements from the international community with greater focus on clinical trials quality, international GCP, ethical compliance, drug safety, risk management, and government enforcement of clinical trials standards and these challenges need to be addressed in order to meet global standards.
India has great potential to play an important role in Clinical Research segment globally. However, to achieve excellence in Clinical Research domain, we should have well qualified and trained Clinical Research professional who can meet national as well as global standards. There is gap between Demand and Supply of trained Clinical Trial workforce and we should bridge this gap to face global challenge. The proper training helps to direct, support and enhances the potential for conduct of clinical trial. It helps students understand their roles better and what is expected from them so hat they can contribute to the success of Clinical Trials.
“In last three years there has been almost 300 per cent increase in the human resource development of clinical research professionals”.
“The efforts of Apte Prashala’s Clinical Research Program to create awareness through GCP education program and to provide training to the clinical research professionals go a long way towards creating a culture of global GCP quality trials”.
